HUMBOLDT ACADEMY CHANDIGARH CHAPTER

The Chandigarh Chapter of the Fellows of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany was founded on 30th March 2001. The founding office bearers were Dr.R.P.Bajpai (President), Dr.R.K.Gupta (Vice President), Dr.Alok Srivastava (secretary) and Dr.M.L.Garg (Treasurer). The chapter had a strength of 18 members.

The Chapter has been organizing lectures of Humboldt Fellows and German professors on a regular basis. Many family outings and get togethers over lunch and dinner have been organized too. The Chapter has been active in co-sponsoring activities of Student Research Convention being held on annual basis by Panjab University, Chandigarh to encourage young researchers to come up with innovative research ideas.
           In addition to the above the Chapter has so far organized a one day workshop on Environment in Chandigarh followed by South East Asian Regional Humboldt Workshop in the period 16th to 18th buy xanax April 2004 to offer a platform for discussion about the activities of Humboldt Clubs of South East Asian Region. The Humbooldt Foundation team was lead by Dr.G.Janetzke the Deputy Secretary General and clubs from India namely Kolkata, New Delhi, Kanpur, Poona, Hyderabad, Khargapur, Mumbai participated besides clubs from Bangladesh, Srilanka, and Nepal. A Humboldt Kolleg was organised jointly by the Humboldt Academies of Chandigarh and Kanpur on the topic: Bio-Nano-Geo Sciences: Addressing Issues of Concern to Mankind under the convenorship of Prof.Dr.Alok Srivastava. The workshop was conducted at the Institute of Himalayan Bio Resource Technology in Palampur which is located in Palampur buy xanax around 270 km from Chandigarh.
